A Person Of Good Character
My wife Sandra recently asked me to read a page or so from a wonderful book she was reading – “Watching the Tree” by Dr Adeline Yen Mah (who lives in the USA). She also wrote “Falling Leaves”.

About Loneliness
Loneliness is a subject which in some ways is also linked to friendship (or lack of friends), possibly lack of self esteem, and depression. I received quite a large response from my previous email about friendship and I have included in this MMN some of the responses, below.

Approaches To Handling Toxic People
An article came across my desk the other day from Dr Travis Bradberry regarding “Toxic People”. You can see it here and I highlight under the heading "Dr Bradberry States" a few of his points. In addition here are some pithy little sayings that I also found on the internet which just seem to hit the right spot regarding this topic:

Awareness Of Blocks To Life's Progress
I have pondered for a long time over this E-Report. I have been prompted to write about some of life's issues such as blame, guilt, hatred, anger and revenge, as a result of email requests. Pondering about this I realised that I must also write about awareness of these issues and about acceptance, co-operation, unconditional love and forgiveness - which is a move towards overcoming these challenges. My mind then went to "love" ! I'll also need to write about "loving yourself" - that is, taking responsibility for yourself and the effect that has on these challenges. And now I am overwhelmed. The topic is the size of a book and in fact my books "Switch On to Your Inner Strength" and "Creating Happiness Intentionally" both offer tools and techniques to deal with these issues. So, what is appropriate for this E-Report? I've chosen "awareness".

Before you Die ... Have No Regrets: PART 2
In this Mind Matters News what I am really writing about are the more philosophical or esoteric areas of life, although other dreams you've had, such as travelling to special places, can also be a part of "Before You Die - Have No Regrets". I am going to continue with some of the soul-searching books that Barry Daniels recommended to me.

CALM Techniques in Action
Once again I have looked through the many Newsletters I sent out by snail-mail before emails really took off and still feel there are too many words of wisdom not to be recycled. So again I offer you an edited version of a Newsletter – probably sent to only about 100 people – about 12 or so years ago.

Dealing With Difficult People
Possibly every day, probably every week – and certainly at different times throughout our lives – we will all be presented wilh life challenges of varying intensity. The quality of our life will depend largely on just how we handle those life challenges. Problems are there as a test, for our growth and development; we learn through the lessons within each challenge.

Friends and Friendship
Some time ago I did a survey on “What Would You Like Me To Write About in MIND MATTERS News”. The topic of Friends and Friendship came up a few times. I have baulked at writing about this (until now) for two reasons. One is that it is such a huge topic, however I have someone who started me off – my gorgeous wife Sandra. She is my best and truest friend and I consider myself extremely lucky to have her love and friendship.

Happiness Follows From Pursuit
I have written about Happiness before. Indeed much has been written about happiness. Can you influence or create Happiness? I know that you can (more of this later)! What is Happiness?

Hoarding Memories and Action You Can Take
There is always someone talking about hoarding. Now they call it a “disorder”! Probably most of us hoard to a certain extent. If you’ve ever moved home do you remember how freeing and cleansing it was to cull and get rid of many things and then try not to accumulate more belongings?

Journey Towards Happiness
You will always enjoy life's journey when you work actively towards your goals. Why is that? Because it is the journey towards the goal that brings Happiness. I thought it appropriate that this EReport is dedicated to goals because so many of us at the beginning of a New Year have New Year's Resolutions - but, what do we do with them? If they are not converted into goals then these resolutions often "wither on the vine" ! So we'll go through the process of setting, writing, and checking goals. The main example that will be considered is a goal for overcoming stress. For any other goal that you would like to formulate, you can use a similar procedure.

Kindness
Some of you will remember that I first started sending out Newsletters – in hard copy – about 15 years ago. Today of course with a much larger list of recipients for what is now called “Mind Matters News”, it would not be possible or feasible to send out Newsletters by so-called snail-mail.

Life's Purpose - A Personal Experience
I often ask people who have attended the Creating Happiness Intentionally (CHI) Seminar for updates on how they are going. Recently I spoke to Barry Daniels who offered to put in writing where he’s up to with his Life’s Journey. I thought that what Barry wrote was really special to share with you, so I am devoting this entire Mind Matters News, with his permission, to his personal journey.

Life's Purpose and Synchronicity
It is amazing in life that what you focus on you'll notice more OR it will indeed flow to you. I've given examples before such as someone wanting to buy say a 1970 yellow Volkswagen and ...... yes, you've guessed it ..... suddenly you start seeing them everywhere. And it was Goethe who said that it's vitally important to take the first step and then the universe responds in countless ways to help.

Planning Life With A Bucket List
Disneyland in Orlando is fantastic. Imagine the atmosphere of half million people who are on holiday at any one time in Orlando and about half of them are visiting a Disney attraction. It is the home of “Imagineering” and “Innovention” and …. fun. My first visit, 40 years ago, was by accident and then 4 subsequent visits took place with about two years of planning for each one. In other words, Disneyland was on my “Bucket List” and, I might add, it still is as I intend to go again.

Purpose of Your Life
What a great subject - I love it! You probably know that my Creating Happiness Intentionally (CHI) Seminar is about developing your life's purpose and all the goals that will take you there. A psychiatrist - Dr Michael Newton - who wrote the very popular books "Journey of Souls" and "Destiny of Souls", as a result of working for more than 40 years with tens of thousands of clients, found that what people really wanted to know was The Purpose of Life.

Renewal
It's Sandra MacGregor here this time - Sandy's wife. This will just be a quick E-Report coming from me this month as Sandy is in Laos right now. Some of you may already know that Sandy is patron of a charity called MiVAC - Mines Victims and Clearance. The MiVAC Trust is the initiative of Australian Vietnam Veterans who cleared landmines in Vietnam and have seen first hand the devastation caused by these indiscriminate weapons. I'm sure Sandy will update you some more about this on his return from Laos and for anybody who would like to see more now, please visit the website at http://www.mivactrust.org/ I think we'll all be hearing a lot more about MiVAC soon.

Some Thoughts Along Life's Journey
It is the knowledge that our years are limited which makes them so precious. Plato declared that infinite life on this earth would not be desirable, because a never-ending existence would be without heights or depths, without challenge or achievement. And yet there seems to be a yearning in the human heart for some kind of existence beyond this narrow span of life. This leads many people to a spiritual journey as well as pursuits of immortality such as the written word, art, music, science and so on - where our name and memory can live on beyond our death.

Support
There are many times in our lives when we need support. A supportive teacher when we're young, supportive parents and friends, support at sport and our job are all areas we can recognise easily. Other areas include support when you're depressed or ill and support when you recognise you need to learn something new to achieve in life.

The Movement Of Spiritual Inner Awareness (MSIA)
I contend that any spiritual search for God that happens anywhere in humanity, no matter what might be the religious framework of that search, is a search for the same thing that everybody else is looking for. This applies whether we want to reach out for God or whether we want to simply wait for God. It also applies if we believe that God is within us all.

What Are Others Saying?
Have you ever known what it is you want to write about but the words don't come! That's how I felt when I was preparing this Mind Matters News. I'll write down what I want to write about and see where it leads me. Have you noticed the number of books which have come out following the release of that international phenomenon - "The Secret"? The book and in particular the DVD have introduced many millions (I would venture in excess of a hundred million) to the fact that each and every one of us can influence our own destiny.

What does Being Spiritual or Spirituality mean?
After doing a great deal of reading on this subject (and doing some self-exploring), I have come to the conclusion that spirituality is whatever you want it to mean to you. The word spiritual is often used in many different ways and there is no fixed definition of its true meaning. Often it is argued that religion and spirituality don't go together. The counter argument is put forward as well - that you can be spiritual without a religion and that you can be spiritual within a religion. (I favour the latter).

What Does Creating Happiness Intentionally Mean?
I encourage people to revise their Life’s Purpose at least every year. Our own growth does not stand still as evidenced by the achievement of any goal (which by its very definition sets one off in a slightly or hugely different direction).

Why is Life's Purpose so Important?
IT IS CHOICE NOT CHANCE THAT DETERMINES YOUR LIFE'S PURPOSE NOW. I have been conducting my CHI (Creating Happiness Intentionally) Seminar, since 1994 and I produced my book of the same name some six years later, in August 2000. Is it just me? Or have you also noticed that there seems to be an ever-increasing amount written about Life's Purpose Now? Why I wonder? Well ... I do have a few thoughts as to why this might be such an important topic.
